To help you on your search let's start with the turn of phrase used to describe the "uni-strap" bag. It is a "sling-style" backpack, so called because of the one strap by which the bag is slung over the shoulder and across the body. The sling backpack, by virtue of it's design is for people on the go, and though they are very comfortable are less suitable for carrying large loads, as students are sometime known to do. Most are significantly smaller by volume than their double strap counterparts, and the more sturdy ones with more space and expanding compartments will run in the area of $50.

That said, I have a few links for you. The first, at jr.com is a black Samsonite sling backpack. Although it doesn't have as many bells and whistles, it is well-sized for school supplies in comparison to others. There isn't much detail, but it clearly has two compartments, a "media port" for inserting headphones," and a smaller compartment on the outside for knickknacks and quick access. The price is $30.

If pink is your flair, the next link is a pink Samsonite bag with a bit more storage space (extra 490 cubic inches). It has 3 main compartments and also has a "media port."

As a side note, I generally find these ports more burdensome to use when placed on the back or top of the bag and make they bag cumbersome to put on and take off with a headphone cord hanging over your back. Better to keep your mp3 player in your pocket or in a shoulder strap if you have a bag with such a compartment.

Link No. 3 is an example of a more expensive Adidas Comox-style sling bag, which is pretty neat and has the less concealed media compartment on the shoulder strap.

My last link is on Amazon, and I don't think is suitable, but there is a video review that details the bag and is exemplary of the sling bag as as the choice for people carrying laptops and numerous small items (electronic devices such as cell phones, PDAs, mp3 players, etc.). Here you see the obvious drawbacks.

If you think you will be carrying lots of large textbooks around, then you are at a disadvantage, but I suggest choosing a larger sling and finding a way to carry less. Be sure to compare the size dimensions in cubic inches of storage as well as overall length and width. Good luck!

I found one at a Staples store. I've been using it for 3 years. Best backpack i've ever had. The brand name is YakPak. it's a uni-strap, black with either orange or red zippers/pouches. I got it for around 25-30$ at a Staples. Great product.
